Faculdade Futura

Faculdade Futura

This is a logo I'm working on for a Brazilian grad school. Two Fs create the main shape in the middle, which forms a shape in the negative space. This shape can be interpreted as several things: An upwards pointing arrow for progress, a bird in flight for spreading one's wings, or a budding leaf on a treebranch representing growth.

Bangs of New York

Tryin to do some more personal work when i get free time.

This one is just a fun typographic experiment for a fictional hair salon called Bangs of New York. The scripty type references hair, and also the etched ornamental logos and crests that could be found on American knife blades in the 1900s.

The Venue Logo

Man, it's been a while!
Work has been pretty crazy busy, limiting me to eating and sleeping in my freetime!

Though I have been squeezing in a few projects on the side.

Here's an interesting one. It's always entertaining when you get very little in terms of direction from a client. For this music venue/night club called The Venue On Park Avenue, the following photos and the description, "young but retro, with a coastal vibe" were all I got.

Anyway, I went through a lot of different ideas and options, trying all kinds of retro-ish things. And a lot of them really looked decent....Until they were put on the wall of the really good looking and attractive building.

It was then that I realized that the only thing I really COULD do would be to use the angles and shapes of the building itself to have a good say in the shape of the logo.

This is what i came up with

I took the exact angles of the ‘V’ on the facade and used that for the mark, and doubled it over to create the ‘notches’ on top. This created a very young and modern mark that fit well on the wall. I tried to balance this youthfulness with a type treatment to the name of the establishment. The font (kabel) is a throwback to that era and fits the mark very nicely.

On the exterior of the building, the mark sits beautifully, accenting the building instead of masking it. It adds a kick of youth without stepping too far over any lines.

Inside, the mark becomes a different character, adding energy and dynamic to the space.

The ‘V’ is not just the first letter of the name. It is also symbolic. When I hear the word ‘venue’, I think of a place where things are happening. It’s a place where people gather. It’s happening RIGHT HERE.

That’s what the V is doing.

It’s pointing.

It’s saying “Here is where it’s happening.”

Anyway, that's about it. Unfortunately the mark never got used, but it was a fun little brain-teaser.

I will upload more recent work here soon.

Blackburn Rovers

For those who didn't know, I'm originally from England, and have been brought up to love a small town football team called Blackburn Rovers. I've loved them all my life and always wanted to redesign their logo, and I finally got round to it the other day.

This is the current logo:

The rose represents the lancashire rose (lancashire is the part of england that blackburn is located)
It is ugly and dated and has been the logo for a little over 30 years, yet it still holds a special place in all rovers fan's hearts because of what it represents.

This is the mark used before that:

A more graphic (and successful) representation of the rose.

And this is the oldest of the logos:

Anyway. This is what I came up with:

The most important thing about the logo is the tradition. You can't get far away from what the club is all about or else it will fail. The overall shape of the mark is taken from the current rovers logo. The rose is taken from the previous logo. And the ribbon is taken from the oldest logo.

The typography on the ribbon isn't finalized yet, so that is just sort of a placeholder for now.

Here is the logo on the jersey:

Here are some color options:

Here are some rose options:

And here is an initial sketch:

I love my Rovers, and I love design. This was a fun exercise in trying to combine the two.

the job

Well

After much looking and talking and thinking, I've started my job at Teshler Creative up in the northwest hills of Austin. They're more of an advertising and strategy company than strictly graphic design, but that's ok and I'm learning a heck of a lot about business related things! I work crazy hours and am deprived of sleep, but I have a steady income which is great!

I've found a really nice apartment, and I'm in the middle of moving in right now.

I'll still be doing plenty of freelance stuff, so if you need anything, don't hesitate to get in touch with me!

The Finished Books

Alrighty so the the flip books are done and just about ready to go. I've got to finish a few boxes and get the envelopes printed, and then I can ship them off. They're going all over the country to design firms that I love and respect, and hopefully it will get me a job.

I've attached a few photos of the process, along with a video or the final product.
